Donkey field Community Orchard Canon 2011

June 21, 2020 Filed Under: Apple Wassail, Song Writing

The idea of setting Tallis Canon to names of apples grown in an orchard came from my friend Camilla Cancantata – a great community musician and prolific song writer living in Knighton. Apples have beautiful and evocative names and I enjoyed playing about with the varieties grown at The Donkeyfield Community Orchard in Portobello, Edinburgh, to make them scan. Please feel free to adapt this to fit the apples in your orchard. I have written various other versions to sing at wassails in Glasgow and other parts of Edinburgh to fit the varieties grown there.
